Rutabaga is often called "yellow turnip," or "Swede." I used to boil sliced rutabaga in water, then mash it with butter.
I happened to be in my favorite produce stand one day, and a customer asked the gal behind the counter what a rutabaga was, and how it was fixed. The gal told her, and then said that she fried the rutabaga with onion, like making fried potatoes. Well, that sounded good!
I ran home and tried it, and we never looked at a boiled rutabaga again.

1. Peel and slice rutabaga.
2. Sauté the onion until half-cooked in the olive oil.
3. Add the rutabaga, sprinkle salt and pepper over all, and cover.
